What is TOEFL Exam?
TOEFL stands for Test of English as Foreign Language. It is a standardized test to measure the English of non-native speakers willing to apply for American and Canadian Universities. All English language academies and professional bodies accept it. It is one of the two major tests for the English language along with IELTS.
There are mainly two types of TOEFL:
1. TOEFL IBT
IBT stands for TOEFL internet bases test. This test has taken over the older TOEFL CBT (TOEFL Computer-based Test) test. Where internet and computer facilities are available, TOEFL IBT test is taken. Most of the test centres in the world had an internet-based testing system of TOEFL.
2. TOEFL PBT
PBT stands for Paper Based Test. In the areas of the world where internet facilities and Computers are not available, TOEFL paper-based testing is done. It is now replaced by TOEFL PDT, Paper Delivered Test from 2017. The test pattern and Scoring are different than the TOEFL IBT.
Eligibility Criteria for TOEFL 2020:
Anyone making plans to study at colleges or universities where instruction is given in English can appear for the TOEFL test. Furthermore, many government agencies, licensing/certification agencies and scholarship programs use TOEFL scores to find out English communicating skills of that person.
- Generally, There are no restrictions regarding the age limit of the candidate. ETS has not set any guidelines defining an Age limit or minimum Age for the candidates.
- A person who have passed in 10+2 level of education from any recognised institution is an acceptable qualification for TOEFL test. In other words, a candidate should have passed from the high school or equivalent to appear for TOEFL test.
- A Valid Passport with name and photograph National ID with name, photograph, and signature
TOEFL Fees:
Although, the exam fees for TOEFL varies from place to place. The general range of the fees is $160 to $260. There are additional fees which users must be aware of
Score Reviews Fees: If you are not happy with the scores you have received, there are facilities to review the scores for all the modules. However, there are some fees one needs to pay for the score reviewing for TOEFL.
TOEFL Rescheduling Fees: There is an option to reschedule the test if for any reason one wants to. The fees for TOEFL rescheduling is the US $60. the Speaking or Writing section will cost the US $80. If you want to review the scoring for both, the fees are the US $160
TOEFL Late Registration Fees: One can register themselves before 7 days of the test date. The registration, however, closes before the 4 days of the test date. For TOEFL Late Registration, the fees are the US $40.

TOEFL provides around 50 Exam Dates in a year. The test takes place every Saturday and Sunday at the test centres. The Indian cities where TOEFL test is conducted are Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Calcutta, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Fatehpur, Gandhinagar, Greater Noida, Guindy, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kolkata, Pune, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Madurai, Mumbai, Mussoorie, Mysore, Nashik, Nizamabad, Panjim, Patna, Ranchi, Secunderabad, Surat, Trivandrum, Udaipur, Vadodara, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam.
One can reschedule the TOEFL Exam Dates up to 7 days before the booked test dates. However, it should be done at least four days prior to the Exam Date. At once, if you do not get the desired scores, you might need to apply for the Exam again. However, one cannot appear for TOEFL again within 3 days of the test.

- TOEFL scores are accepted by more than 11,000 universities and other institutions in over 150 countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the U.K., the United States, and all across Europe and Asia.
- Appearing for TOEFL would also allow students to be eligible for several scholarships and also help students and candidates looking for employment abroad with their visa application process.
- TOEFL is a more preferred exam among students who want to pursue higher education abroad, as more TOEFL scores are sent to universities in the United States and Canada, compared to others.

TOEFL Registration Process 2020-21:
Step 1: Candidates are required to visit the below mentioned link to go to the official ETS website. Create a new account or log in to an already existing account on the official ets.org website.
Step 2: Once logged in, candidates would be then required to select their TOEFL Exam Date that is most convenient to them as test-takers. Also, select a Test Centre that is convenient to them.
Step 3: Once the candidate has opted for his choice of Test Date and Exam Centre he would be redirected to the exam payment gateway page. Candidates would be required to pay the TOEFL Examination fee has mentioned. Candidates should be careful to check the details of the examination credentials here.
Step 4: Once the payment has been made. Candidates can take a print out of the acknowledgment receipt. They would also have access to the same on their account dashboard.

Go through the registration form before you call. Spell your name correctly and exactly as it appears on your passport. Call the Regional Registration Center on this number – 91-124-4147700. Pay with credit/debit cards as directed. Remember, Registration closes seven days before your test date.
- By mail –
Download and print the registration form and fill out the form. Spell your name exactly as it appears on the identification you will bring on the test day. Then, send the form with your payment to the address on the form or to the Gurgaon center address, mentioned above. Forms must be received at least four weeks before your test date.
