Role Overview
The CloudOps Intern will work under supervision with the team responsible for keeping cloud environments and supporting systems operational. The position combines structured learning with practical exposure to infrastructure, security tools, automation and IT service management.
- Assist with day-to-day cloud environment operations and monitoring.
- Support patch management for Windows, Linux, CentOS and Ubuntu systems.
- Carry out basic VMware tasks such as virtual machine health checks, snapshot management and routine maintenance.
- Support the installation and basic upkeep of endpoint security tools, including EDR solutions.
- Build and maintain basic automation scripts for routine operational activities.
- Maintain documentation for systems, processes and standard operating procedures.
- Raise and track tickets and incidents through the team’s ITSM tool.
- Follow defined escalation procedures for operational issues.
- Attend training sessions and shadow senior engineers to develop hands-on operational knowledge.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Currently pursuing the final year of a Computer Science, Information Technology or related programme.
- Basic understanding of operating systems, including Windows and Linux fundamentals such as Ubuntu and CentOS.
- Basic awareness of cloud computing concepts on any provider, including AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
- Strong willingness to learn, good communication skills and the ability to follow structured processes.
- A good analytical and troubleshooting mindset with attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor cloud environments and assist with routine operational activities under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Participate in patching activities for Windows and Linux systems to support system maintenance.
- Perform routine checks and maintenance tasks in VMware environments.
- Help deploy and maintain endpoint detection and response tools used for security monitoring.
- Develop simple PowerShell, Bash or Python scripts to reduce repetitive operational work.
- Keep system records, process documents and SOPs accurate and up to date.
- Record incidents in the ITSM platform, track their progress and escalate them according to process.
- Learn operational practices by attending training and working alongside senior engineers.
Skills Required
- Operating system fundamentals across Windows and Linux, including Ubuntu or CentOS.
- Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts across AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
- Basic networking knowledge, particularly in a cloud environment.
- Basic understanding of databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL or Oracle.
- Familiarity with scripting fundamentals in PowerShell, Bash or Python.
- Basic understanding of virtualisation concepts and VMware; this is listed as an additional skill and is not mandatory.
- Awareness of IT security fundamentals, including patching, antivirus and EDR.
- Good communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
