Role Overview
The Junior Network Security Engineer will work under the guidance of experienced engineers and gradually take on wider operational responsibility across KION’s Network Security & Trust service portfolio. The role focuses on dependable day-to-day operations, accurate ticket handling and controlled support for security platforms.
- Process incidents, service requests, tasks and standard changes through the designated IT service-management tool.
- Support enterprise firewall services across on-premises, cloud, edge and industrial environments.
- Assist with site-to-site IPsec VPNs, partner connectivity, network segmentation, NAC and controlled communication paths.
- Support digital certificate issuance, deployment, renewal, replacement, revocation and retirement.
- Contribute to monitoring, maintenance, audits, control reviews, documentation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform initial analysis, classification, prioritisation and troubleshooting of incoming network-security tickets.
- Resolve standard and recurring requests by following approved procedures, knowledge articles, technical standards and operational runbooks.
- Track assigned tickets, provide accurate status updates and support the reduction of the operational backlog.
- Collect logs, configurations, error details and other technical information before escalating complex cases.
- Escalate security-critical, high-impact or technically complex issues to senior engineers, the Network Security Architect, vendors or service providers.
- Implement approved firewall-rule, object, NAT and security-policy changes after validating ownership, approvals, ports, protocols and business justification.
- Assist with firewall-rule reviews, recertification, cleanup, policy optimisation, platform upgrades, backups and restore activities.
- Monitor VPN availability, tunnel status, encryption parameters and connectivity dependencies, and maintain related configuration and lifecycle records.
- Process standard certificate requests and monitor certificate validity, expirations, service alerts and certificate-related events.
- Support PKI and Certificate Lifecycle Management activities, including certificate inventory, application onboarding, audits and control reviews.
- Perform recurring service checks, software updates, configuration reviews, backup verification and operational readiness activities.
- Prepare evidence for technical audits, assist with remediation of operational findings and provide accurate service-reporting information.
- Identify repetitive activities that may benefit from templates, scripts, workflows or APIs and support the testing of approved automation.
- Maintain troubleshooting instructions, knowledge articles, diagrams, operating procedures and operational runbooks.
