What is MEC ?
The best engineering jobs in India (and around the world) demand graduates with more than just a degree in CS or EE. The best jobs are going to candidates who can demonstrate that they really understand their discipline. Microsoft Research India is excited to introduce MEC (short for “Massively Empowered Classrooms”), a research project designed to bring the highest quality classroom material to every undergraduate engineering student in India. MEC is geared to be a fun, social, and interactive learning place for students and teachers! Many features distinguish the MEC from a traditional online learning platform.
WHO CAN GET INVOLVED WITH MEC?
Anyone – Teachers, Students, Colleges, Universities. Just contact us to know more.
WHEN ARE THE MEC COURSES GOING ON? WHAT’S IN FOR ME?
The Algorithm lectures are ongoing for various Universities across India. Besides that, more courses are being added. So please check the home page for colleges and Universities that have signed up. Based on the performance (completion of lessons, quizzes, forum participation), Microsoft Research will issue digital certificates to eligible students. So, sign-up, engage with us and stay tuned!
WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS? WHAT’S IN IT FOR MICROSOFT?
Microsoft Research India is running this program to understand how online educational systems might be used to improve learning for Indian college students. Indian tertiary education is nearing the breaking point: there are millions of students demanding the best education from too few teachers who are stretched very thin. We think that online education tools (such as MEC) might be able to help, and we want to understand what works and what doesn’t. The demand for computer science education is particularly huge, so we thought that a great place to start is in fundamental CS (such as the design and analysis of algorithms).
