Role Overview

The Junior BI Operations Engineer will work under the guidance of senior team members in a global 24×7 BI Operations team. The role combines production monitoring, first-level support, data pipeline operations and scripting, with regular interaction between technical teams and business users.

  • Monitor enterprise BI systems and ETL/ELT pipelines during operational shifts.
  • Support the smooth execution of scheduled data jobs and reporting workflows.
  • Investigate alerts and basic job failures before escalating complex issues.
  • Use Python, Shell scripting and AI or LLM tools to improve routine operational work.
  • Work with Data Engineering and Development teams during knowledge-transfer activities.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics or a related technical field. Equivalent practical industry experience is also considered.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in BI, Data Operations, L1/L2 Support or Data Engineering.
  • Willingness to work in shifts as part of a 24×7 operational rotation.
  • Ability to work from the Chennai location and coordinate with global teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily 24×7 monitoring and operational reporting for ETL/ELT data pipelines and BI systems.
  • Provide first-level support for business users and applications by investigating, triaging and resolving basic system alerts or failed jobs.
  • Help prepare and maintain job-scheduling modules for regular data operations.
  • Update runbooks with runtime statistics, troubleshooting information and operational steps.
  • Participate in knowledge-transfer sessions with Data Engineering and Development teams to support handovers into the Operations environment.
  • Automate routine operational checks using Python and Unix/Linux Shell scripting.
  • Follow GitHub or Git-based version-control practices for scripts and repository management.
  • Use AI and LLM tools to support log analysis, query optimisation, bug fixing and process documentation.
  • Communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical business users through verbal and written updates.

Skills Required

  • Foundational to working knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Basic understanding of data warehousing concepts, including dimensional modelling, staging and star schema.
  • Hands-on experience or working knowledge of Python and Unix/Linux Shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with GitHub or Git workflows for code repository management and version tracking.
  • Basic knowledge or practical exposure to AI and Large Language Model tools.
  • Exposure to cloud data platforms such as Snowflake DB.
  • Exposure to ETL tools such as Pentaho Data Integration, Talend or Informatica.
  • Exposure to job schedulers such as Airflow, Control-M or Autosys.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with an interest in root-cause analysis and bug fixing.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts applied to data pipelines is preferable.
  • Familiarity with ticketing or ITSM tools such as Jira, ServiceNow or similar platforms is preferable.
  • Clear verbal and written communication for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn quickly, take ownership, speak up and respond to changing operational needs.
