Role Overview
The Data Scientist Associate will work in the Front Office Support department within the Global Markets – Data & AI Lab. The team develops models that support client recommendations, anticipate client needs, help traders understand and manage risk, and make use of alternative data such as social media, news and images.
- Develop and maintain AI models from initial data collection through deployment and monitoring.
- Work with stakeholders to understand business problems, discuss requirements and review project updates.
- Research model improvements and recommend updates or enhancements.
- Collaborate with expert colleagues and business representatives to assess whether model results reflect real-world requirements.
- Support production models delivered by the Mumbai team and potentially assist models serving Asian, European and US time zones.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a relevant STEM field.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the same field.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and analyse data, perform feature engineering, develop models, evaluate their performance and monitor them after deployment.
- Build AI models from scratch or fine-tune large models for tabular and textual data.
- Identify opportunities to improve model performance through independent research and analysis.
- Prepare recommendations for model updates and enhancements.
- Work with specialist colleagues and business representatives to examine results and keep models grounded in practical business needs.
- Document model development and present options and results to decision-makers.
- Ensure the integrity and security of data used in the modelling process.
- Provide support for production models delivered by the Mumbai team and other models across international time zones.
Skills Required
- Strong Python programming skills, including the ability to write clean, clear and concise code.
- Knowledge of Git, NumPy and pandas.
- Understanding of statistics and mathematics, including probability theory, linear algebra and statistical methods for machine learning.
- Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning concepts, including data representations, neural network architectures and custom loss functions.
- Experience with model fine-tuning and AI models for tabular and textual data.
- Familiarity with PyTorch, scikit-learn, Hugging Face, LangChain, Transformers and Unsloth.
- Knowledge of data collection, feature engineering, model evaluation, monitoring and deployment.
- Awareness of current machine learning and artificial intelligence literature.
- Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn challenging concepts regularly.
- Good communication skills, critical thinking, teamwork, collaboration, attention to detail and rigour.
