Role Overview
The Decision Scientist will work with business and functional partners to understand priorities, frame analytical questions and develop solutions that improve decision-making. The role combines applied mathematics, data science, technology and retail knowledge, with outputs ranging from machine learning algorithms to dashboards and recommendation presentations.
- Translate business priorities into analytical solution documents and identify how data science can improve decisions.
- Prepare analytical datasets using information from multiple complex data sources.
- Develop statistical models and machine learning algorithms for business use cases.
- Create visualisation layers that allow end-users to understand and act on analytical outputs.
- Work with line managers and business partners to support the adoption and consumption of solutions.
- Look beyond the immediate request and identify wider business questions that analytics can address.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Professionals with 1 to 2+ years of experience in applying data science in the Retail or CPG sector are preferred.
- Functional experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: Marketing, Supply Chain, Customer, Merchandising, Operations, Finance or Digital.
Key Responsibilities

- Develop reusable knowledge assets and modules through platforms such as GitHub and internal wikis.
- Present analytical outputs through visualisation platforms, including Tableau or Python, or through recommendation sets and PowerPoint presentations.
- Support the application of solutions and help business users consume the resulting insights.
Skills Required
- Applied mathematics skills covering applied statistics, design of experiments, regression, decision trees, forecasting, optimisation algorithms, clustering and natural language processing.
- Technical knowledge of SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Python, Tableau, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and GitHub.
- Basic understanding of the retail domain.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Storyboarding skills and articulate communication.
